SUMMARY:Free Workshop: Opportunities for Legal Services
DESCRIPTION:Free Workshop: Learn about the John Marshall Law School "Business Transactions Externship Program" That Provides Free Legal Assistance to Businesses and Not-for-Profit Organizations\n\n	Friday\, Feb. 10th\n\n	8:30am\n\n	Location: Bridgeview Bank - Uptown\, 4753 N. Broadway\n\n	\n\n	Seating is limited so although the event is FREE\, you MUST register in advance to attend\n\n	\n\n	Join us for a free workshop to introduce you to this program that matches businesses and nonprofits with law students. Attorney Michael Schlesinger oversees the program and will provide a presentation on how it works and how you can benefit from the services they offer.\n\n	\n\n	What legal challenges do you face?\n\n	\n How do you decide which form of business organization best meets your goals and objectives?\n	\n Is there a business relationship you want to establish\, but just don't know how to get started?\n	\n Have you received a contract that requires an explanation and that you want to negotiate?\n	\n Do you have questions about financing the growth of your business\, but have no one to ask?\n	\n Are you so busy running the day-to-day operations of your business that planning for the future has been put on a back burner?\n	\n Are there routine forms and documents that you have been using\, not because they meet your needs\, but because you found them in a book or on the Internet?\n\n\n	About the Business Transactions Externship Program\n\n \n\n	\n Attorney Michael Schlesinger and a select group of students at The John Marshall Law School enrolled in the Business Transactions Externship Program (BTEP) provide pro bono legal services to not-for-profit organizations and business clients with limited financial resources to retain a lawyer in connection with business and transactional matters.\n	\n \n	\n Legal questions arise in many different contexts and come in all shapes\, sizes\, and levels of complexity. The key to good lawyering is the ability not only to identify problems\, but\, after a thorough assessment\, come up with solutions. And by solutions\, we mean ones that meet a client's goals and objectives. Even that is not enough. After consulting with our client and figuring out a solution\, we work with the client to develop tactics and strategies to achieve the desired result.\n\n\n \n\n	Examples of Legal Services\n\n	\n \n \n The choice of entity for your business\, including tax and non-tax consequences\n \n The structure of the entity\, focusing on three areas: ownership\, control\, and financing\n \n Regulatory compliance\, which involves interpreting the law that regulates the operation of your business\n \n Employment issues\, including protection of confidential and proprietary information and contracts with key employees\n \n The use of form documents and the implications of contractual terms and provisions\n \n The structure of contractual and other relationships with suppliers and customers\n \n The review and negotiation of loan documents from banks and other third parties (Businesses and not-for-profit organizations often borrow money and are presented with a set of loan documents and expected to sign them. However\, loan documents (loan agreement\, promissory note\, security agreement\, etc.) are negotiable.)\n \n A legal assessment of not-for-profit organizations and for-profit businesses regarding: an organization's or company's compliance with regulatory requirements\, tax status\, enforceability of contracts\, compliance with contractual obligations to lenders and other third parties\, and a host of other issues\n \n Regular\, routine business transactions that arise in the day-to-day operation of a business or not-forprofit organization\n \n	\n\n\n	Speaker: Michael D.
