SUMMARY:Trio Speranza at DANK Haus: Stylus Phantasticus\, Old and New
DESCRIPTION:Celebrate J.S. Bach's 330th birthday with Trio Speranza at DANK Haus German American Cultural Center located in Chicago's iconic Lincoln Square neighborhood. Enjoy German beers and other liquid refreshments available for purchase as you sit back and enjoy this program of German Baroque music in the Skyline Lounge! Suggested donation: $15\; students $5.\n\n\n\nExplore the enigmatic musical world of Northern Europe with a sojourn through works by Germanic composers. Dieterich Buxtehude's compositions exemplify this 'fantastic style' that influenced contemporaries and successive generations of composers. Trio Speranza (Anna Griffis\, violin\; Cora Swenson Lee\, cello\; Jason Moy\, harpsichord) explores the Stylus Phantasticus from its roots in Buxtehude through the tempestuous early works of J.S. Bach\, and its evolution into the Galant style of Telemann\, Abel\, and others.\n\n\n\nTrio Speranza is a dynamic new ensemble dedicated to presenting engaging and thought-provoking performances of both familiar and lesser-known repertoire from\n\nthe Baroque era. The group\, comprising violinist Anna Griffis\, cellist Cora Swenson Lee\, and harpsichordist Jason Moy\, made their debut in a Boston Early Music\n\nFestival Fringe Concert at the historic Trinity Church on Copley Square in the summer of 2013\, and won the Presentation Prize at the 2014 Early Music America\n\nBaroque Performance Competition in Chicago. Collectively\, they are alums of the Oberlin Baroque Performance Institute and Tafelmusik Baroque Summer Institute\, and frequently perform with such respected ensembles as Boston Baroque\, La Follia\, Music of the Baroque\, Tempesta di Mare\, the Newberry Consort\, and New Trinity Baroque\, among others.
