In the early days of 19th century American guitar music a number of alternative tunings were used in conjunction with what we now consider standard. The open C tuning was used extensively in parlor music, and jumped from there to folk, Hawaiian slack key, and the music of acoustic guitar innovators. You'll learn the fundamentals of the tuning, how to play familiar songs, as well as classic song in the holy grail of alt tunings.
