— The DANK Haus German American Cultural Center presents SILENT SCREAM! a double featuring of The Cabinet of Dr Caligari and Nosferatu: Symphony of Horror on Friday October 28 2011 at 7:30 pm in the gilt and terrazzo Marunde Ballroom. Both 16 mm projection films will have live organ accompaniment by Dennis Scott.
German expressionists of the 1920’s founded the horror genre with these classics. The Cabinet of Dr Caligari was made between the wars and birthed the horror genre. Following is F.W. Murnau’s unauthorized version of the Dracula story, Nosferatu, that set the standard for vampire movies for decades to come. It features extensive location shooting in Wismar, Rostock and Lübeck in the early days of the Weimar Republic.
Entrance is only $7 and not for the faint of heart or of a tender age.
For your concession needs, DANK has Nosferatu by Great lakes Brewing on tap and old fashioned popcorn and pretzels.
DANK Haus welcomes Dennis Scott, who will be providing the “voice” to Silent Scream at the o. Dennis is president of the Chicagoland Theatre Organ Society and serves as staff organist at Chicago’s Music Box Theatre. In addition, he is a regular performer at the Silent Film Society of Chicago’s Summer Film Festival, and has played at festivals across the Midwest including the International Buster Keaton Convention.
