About Your Instructor
LaManda Joy is president of City Grange, founder of the nonprofit Peterson Garden Project, author, speaker and Illinois Extension Master Gardener. Her books “Fearless Food Gardening in Chicagoland” (with Teresa Gale) and “Start A Community Food Garden: The Essential Handbook” (Timber Press) strive to make food gardening and community garden organizing accessible to everyone. Inspired by the WW2 Victory Garden movement and her own Greatest Generation parents, LaManda has spoken across the country, including the Library of Congress (twice), about how communities can come together over the important act of growing their own food. As she likes to say (referring to a new Victory Garden movement), “We’ve grown it before, we can grow it again.” Her proudest moment was leading a sing-a-long with 500 participants at a conference in NYC.
