• These Are Chicago’s Michelin-Starred Restaurants, 2023

by Alma Avalle / Bon Appétit / November 7, 2023

The Michelin Guide announced on Tuesday, November 7, which restaurants in Chicago received coveted Michelin stars this year. The awards were doled out at a shared ceremony in New York City for restaurants from Chicago, New York, and Washington D.C.

The New American restaurant Smyth received its third Michelin star, six years after receiving its second in 2017. It joins Alinea as the only other restaurant in the city to receive Michelin’s highest star rating. No new Chicago restaurants received the two-star distinction. Atelier and Indienne—one of Bon Appétit’s Best New Restaurants of 2023—each received one Michelin star, bringing the number of one-starred restaurants in Chicago up to 18.

Michelin added five new Chicago restaurants to its Bib Gourmand list this year—an honor recognizing more affordable, often less formal restaurants. The list features Filipino restaurant Boonie’s in the North Center neighborhood—the first Filipino Bib in the city and just the fourth in the country—along with Logan Square’s Cellar Door Provisions (which Bon Appétit described as “the perfect restaurant” way back in 2019). Yao Yao also received a Bib, becoming the city’s first Sichuan and second Chinese restaurant to receive the honor. Pompette in Wicker Park and Union in the next-door neighborhood of Logan Square also received bibs. Read more HERE
