A Thousand and One Afternoons in Chicago presented by ACM
In 1921, a young Ben Hecht created a column for the Chicago Daily News later defined by his editor as “journalism extraordinary; journalism that invaded the realm of literature.” His series of poignant short story vignettes of life in Jazz-era Chicago remain a fascinating read today.
Hecht’s fluid prose style and vivid imagery have inspired a dynamic collaboration between Access Contemporary Music and Strawdog Theater. We’ve adapted six of Hecht’s very best stories into a radio play for voices and live music by Seth Boustead and Amos Gillespie, to be performed with live foley sound effects.
This collaborative adaptation will be performed one time only.Date and Time
