Lillstreet Creative Bookmaking Retreat: Connecting Visual Art and Writing

This full-day art retreat is a hands-on collaborative art and creative writing session in which participants will make their own sculptural handmade books based around the fall season. The retreat will begin by making lists, or collections, of seasonal images and memories, and then will turn to creating poetry, visual art, and journaling. Drawing, painting, collaging, and stenciling are a few of the techniques that will be offered throughout the session. Each participant will spend the day filling his/her book with their own unique style, reflecting upon the relationship between writing and art. We will conclude the day by sharing our books and telling the stories and memories that inspired this project.

At this retreat you will:

- Create your own book and/or journal with reflections on your life

- Combine imagery with writing

- Experiment with a variety of art supplies

- Share ideas, memories, thoughts and inspirations

Skill level: No experience needed.

Materials list: Optional – please bring photocopies of images and quotes that have a personal meaning, fabric, ribbon, decorative paper, etc.
