OPEN HOUSE UPDATE MEETINGfor the Western and Ashland Corridors
Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) ProjectWhat is the Western and Ashland Corridors BRT Project?
The CTA, in partnership with the Chicago Department of Transportation, Department of Housing and Economic Development, and the Federal Transit Administration, is performing an Alternatives Analysis planning study as a means of exploring options as well as the positive and negative impacts of a variety of BRT features and service on both Western and Ashland Avenues. BRT offers a variety of bus service designs that provide faster, more efficient and more reliable service than local bus lines. BRT could also include a number of features and services, such as dedicated bus lanes, new enhanced stations and traffic signal upgrades.
The study area extends approximately 21 miles along Western and Ashland Avenues, from Howard Street on the north to 95th Street on the south. This update meeting is a continuation of the public outreach efforts that began in June 2012 to keep local communities informed and involved in the project.
