Lightwriters Neon Chicago Turns One!
Lightwriters Neon of Chicago is proud to announce its first full year of glowing and community building in Ravenswood! Please join us for an evening of celebratory refreshments, silk screening, and glass demonstrations on Saturday November 15, from 5-10pm. On view in the gallery space is a new exhibit featuring work made by Lightwriters Neon community members during the first year of the studio’s operation.
Zoelle Nagib, Director of Lightwriters said, “This show is something we dreamed up before we even had students in the space, and now it is a special display of how dedicated and engaged our community has become.” Attendees are encouraged to bring or purchase items to decorate with our variety of silk screen designs, and there will also be a limited batch of hand dyed t-shirts for sale to benefit a local non-profit.
Lightwriters is a woman-owned and queer-led multi-generational teaching studio. They offer regular classes in the craft of neon, both for small groups of individual students and larger custom group classes, as well as bench rental for experienced students and the larger neon community. Class offerings include mini and immersive one-day courses as well as multi-week in-depth instruction for neon enthusiasts and seasoned artists alike. Jacob Fishman, who has nearly 50 years of experience as a neon fabricator and educator remarked, “Neon has such a magical quality, the combination of light and glass is truly very unique. It’s a fascinating medium for the folks just looking for a new experience or artists wanting to incorporate neon into their work.”
