Shift Lead

Union Dumpling House is hiring a hands-on, dependable Shift Lead to help lead daily restaurant operations and support our team.

The Shift Lead must understand the workflow and standards of all major restaurant positions, ensure team members consistently follow established SOPs, and be willing to step into any position when the team needs support.

Most importantly, we are looking for a team player who leads by example — someone who works alongside the team, communicates clearly, and takes responsibility for maintaining our service, food quality, cleanliness, and operating standards.

Responsibilities

• Understand and be able to perform the essential duties of Front of House, Line Cook, Dumpling Prep, Dishwasher/Kitchen Prep, and other restaurant positions
• Lead the team during assigned shifts and coordinate daily restaurant operations
• Ensure employees follow the SOPs, food preparation standards, service procedures, and cleaning requirements for their assigned positions
• Monitor food quality, portion consistency, order accuracy, and ticket times
• Make sure Front of House and kitchen teams communicate effectively during service
• Assign side work, cleaning tasks, and station responsibilities
• Check that opening, shift-change, and closing procedures are completed correctly
• Step into any station when needed during busy periods or staffing shortages
• Coach team members when procedures or performance standards are not being followed
• Handle guest concerns professionally and help resolve operational issues
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe restaurant environment
• Communicate important shift issues, employee concerns, inventory needs, and operational problems to management
• Help create a positive, respectful, and accountable team environment

What We’re Looking For

• Strong understanding of restaurant operations and willingness to learn every station
• Previous restaurant leadership or supervisory experience preferred
• Reliable, responsible, and highly accountable
• Able to enforce standards consistently and professionally
• Strong communication and problem-solving skills
• Comfortable giving clear direction and constructive feedback
• Able to stay calm and organized during busy periods
• Willing to work side-by-side with the team instead of only supervising
• Strong sense of teamwork and willingness to help wherever needed
• Evening, weekend, and peak-period availability preferred
